Dirt floor crawlspace
This is a typical dirt floor crawlspace with lots of debris on the ground.
Wood rot on the main beam.
The Main beam is sagging because of the moisture content trapped in the crawlspace.
Falling insulation
When friction fit insulation get damp, it gets very heavy and the air gaps get full of water. When this happens it no longer acts as insulation and then it falls to the floor.
Rust on pipes.
The moisture content is so high that pipes are rusting.
Poor support
An bad attempt to support the failing main beam is evident here with make shift support.
6 mil poly
This does not work. The poly will brak down and it will shift every time you crawl on it.
Clean and level
The next step is to clean out the debris and level the dirt as much as possible.
Footing for the Smartjacks
A large aluminum plate will be placed over the gravel to support the beam and jack system.
Smartjacks and supplemental beam
A beam has been installed on both sides of the main beam to support the floor properly.
dariange matting
This layer will protect the Cleanspace layer.
Cleanspace
The Cleanspace vapor barrier is 20 mil thick ad is sealed and attached to the walls and jacks
Walls
The walls are sealed with the same liner as the floor.
beams
Here you can clearly see how the beam system is supporting all the floor joists on both sides of the main beam which is failed.
