Foundation Repair Photo Album: Fixing bowing walls from expansive soil in St. Catharines, ON

Alf in St. Catharines has a poured concrete foundation that is cracking and bowing from expansive soil conditions. The deflection on the walls was not great yet so Omni Basement Systems installed the Carbon Armor System. Carbon Armor is a product that attaches 7" wide carbon fiber straps to the wall. Several layers of epoxy are used to adhere the carbon fiber to the wall. Another strap is attached to the joist header and the wall to make sure that tipping does not occur. Alf can now finish his basement wall knowing that the wall is secure from bowing or tipping.

Large Diagonal crack

This is a tell tale sign that your wall is bowing. There are also some horizontal cracking.

Footing are exposed.

Footing are exposed to secure the whole wall and also for waterproofing.

Armor Lock

This Armor Lock will secure the wall to the joist header to prevent the wall from tipping.

Carbon Armor applied.

The 7" wide carbon fiber strap is now adhered to the wall using several cotes of epoxy. Notice that the carbon fiber goes all the way to the footings.
